Sustainability of forest resources is, first and foremost, related with the perception of society to these resources. The scheme of utilization with an effective protection-use balance without damaging the resource value will also ensure future generations to be able to benefit from these resources. Therefore, the level of awareness and perception of the society in this context may lead to the complete depletion and destruction of the resource, as well as the potential for sustainable long-term use and utilization. This study was carried out with 460 subjects using face-to-face survey method in order to reveal the forest perception in Çankırı city center. The obtained data were evaluated by Chi-square using statistical package program (SPSS 18). Furthermore, with the Simple Correspondence Analysis, the relationship between educational categories and categorized responses to the impact of the forest to conservation of the biological diversity was examined. As a result of the analyzes, it has been determined that the forest perception in Çankırı province is generally formed on the axis of “tree”, “foliage” and “picnic”. Despite the fact that the forest administrations have many studies on the subject, it is understood that they cannot fully express/explain themselves and their works. On the other hand, it was determined that the educational situation was the most effective variable in forest perception. Therefore, in order to develop and shape the forest perception of the society, it is necessary to give more education and publicity studies in this subject.Orman kaynaklarının sürdürülebilirliği her şeyden önce toplumun bu kaynaklara ilişkin algısı ile ilgilidir. Kaynak değerine zarar vermeden etkin bir koruma-kullanma dengesi ile gerçekleştirilecek faydalanma düzeni, gelecek kuşakların da bu kaynaklardan yararlanmasını garanti altına alacaktır. Dolayısı ile toplumun bu konudaki farkındalık düzeyi ve algısı, olumsuz yönde kaynağın tamamıyla tüketilmesi veya yok olmasına neden olabileceği gibi olumlu yönde sürdürülebilir kullanma ve faydalanmanın sağlanmasına da önemli katkılar sağlayacaktır. Bu çalışma Çankırı ili kent merkezinde ormana ilişkin algıyı ortaya koymak amacıyla yüz yüze anket yöntemi kullanılarak 460 denek ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler sosyal bilimler için istatistik paket programı (SPSS 18) kullanılarak Ki-Kare analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca Basit Uyum Analizi tekniği kullanılarak eğitim değişkeni kategorileri ile ormanın biyoçeşitliliğin korunmasına etkisi sorusuna verilen cevap kategorileri arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda Çankırı ili kent merkezinde ormana ilişkin algının genel olarak “ağaç”, “yeşillik” ve “piknik” ekseninde şekillendiği tespit edilmiştir. Orman idaresinin konu hakkında birçok çalışması bulunmasına karşın, yaptığı çalışmaları ve kendisini topluma tam anlamıyla tanıtamadığı/anlatamadığı anlaşılmaktadır. Buna karşın eğitim durumunun, orman algısında en etkili değişken olduğu saptanmıştır. Dolayısı ile toplumun orman algısını geliştirmek ve şekillendirmek, ilgili faaliyetlerinde toplumun anlayış ve desteğini kazanmak adına halkla ilişkilere daha fazla yer verilmesi gerekmektedir.
