In this study, the surfaces of MDF were coated with amixture of calcite, fire retardant (FR) and glue. Then the properties of MDFboards combustion resistance were investigated. Borax and muscovite, known asflame retardants, were added to the mixture at 1%, 3% and 5% relative to theoven dry weight of calcite. The burning tests of the samples were carried out accordingto ASTM E 69 standard so that the combustion characteristics could bedetermined. The weight loss, temperature, O2, CO and NO gas emissionsquantities of the test samples were measured. The measurements were recordedevery 30 seconds. Borax had the most positive effect on weight loss (74.5%) andO2 amount (20.5%), while muscovite 5% chemistry had a greater effect ontemperature (289 oC) and NO amount (342 ppm). Borax and muscovite used insurface coating have been positively influenced on burning performancedepending on addition rate.MDF levhaların yüzeyleri kalsit, yanmayı geciktirici (FR) vetutkal karışımı ile kaplanmıştır. Daha sonra yanma dayanımı özellikleriaraştırılmıştır. Kalsitin tam kuru ağırlığına oranla, karışıma %1, %3 ve %5 oranlarındayanmayı geciktirici olarak bilinen boraks ve muskovit ilave edilmiştir. Yanmakarakteristiklerinin belirlenebilmesi için, numunelerin yanma testleri ASTM E69 standardına göre yapılmıştır. Test örneklerinin, ağırlık kaybı, sıcaklık,O2, CO ve NO gaz miktarları ölçülmüştür. Ölçümler her 30 saniyede birkaydedilmiştir. Boraks %5 kimyasalı, ağırlık kaybı (%74.5) ve O2 miktarı  (%20.5) üzerine en olumlu etkiyi yaparken,muskovit %5 kimyasalı ise sıcaklık (289 oC) ve NO miktarı (342 ppm) üzerinedaha fazla etki etmiştir. Yüzey kaplamasında kullanılan boraks ve muskovit,ilave edilme oranına bağlı olarak yanma performansı üzerine olumlu etkiyapmışlardır.
