Günümüz mobilya üretiminde, özellikle seri üretimde, en fazla tercih edilen kenar bandı 0.4 ve 0.8 mm kalınlıktaki PVC kenar bantlarıdır. Bunlar, kapaklarda, gövde ve iç kısımlarda, bazalarda, nadiren köşe birleşme noktasındaki kenarlarda ve arkalık gelecek kısımlarda kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, mobilyalarda uygulanan L tipi köşe birleştirmelerde gizli kenara, farklı kalınlıkta kenar bandı uygulanarak birleştirme elemanlarının mekanik performansları araştırılmıştır. Bunun için, kenar bantlama işleminde 0.4 mm ve 0.8 mm PVC kenar bandı kullanılmıştır. Denemelerde birleştirme gereci olarak minifix, kavela ve confirmat vida kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca, denemeler için kenar bandı uygulanmayan bir kontrol grubu hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, gizli kenara uygulanan kenar bandının, mobilya birleştirme noktalarının mekanik performansını artırdığı belirlenmiştir. Melamin kaplı lif levhalardan hazırlanan test örnekleri, melamin kaplı yonga levhalardan hazırlanan test örneklerine göre daha yüksek moment değeri vermiştir. Birleştirme gereçlerinden en düşük mekanik performans kavelada, en yüksek ise confirmat vida ile yapılan birleştirmelerde ölçülmüştür. Ayrıca, kenar bandı kalınlığının çekme ve basınç testi sonuçları üzerine istatistiksel olarak önemli bir etkisi olmadığı belirlenmiştir.Currently, the edge band that is preferred for producing furniture is a PVC edge band that is either 0.4 or 0.8 mm thick. Such edge bands are used on the doors, body and interior sections, and in the bases of cabinets. However, they rarely are used at the edge of the corner joint or in the back panels. In this study, we investigated the mechanical performances of some fasteners on demountable furniture, and we did so by adding 0.4 and 0.8 mm side bands onto the hidden side of the furniture’s L-type corner connections. We tested three types of fixing pieces in our experiments, i.e., minifix, dowel, and confirmat screws. Also, we prepared a control group that did not have any side bands. Our findings indicated that the use of edge bands on the hidden edge increased the mechanical performance of the points at which the pieces of the furniture were joined. The test specimens prepared from melamine-coated fiber board had higher moment values than the test specimens prepared from melamine-coated particle boards. The lowest mechanical performance of the fasteners was measured in the joining, while the highest performance was measured at the joints made with confirmat screws. It also was determined that the thickness of the edge band did not have statistically significant effects on the tension and compression test results.
